Doctorate in Peking University, China, majored in Historical Geography. Supervisor of the subject is Professor Hou Renzhi, senior academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Title of the Ph.D. thesis: Internal Urban Structure of Modern Peking. Degree honored in July 1997.

  • Geography Information System application in Historical Geography, for construction of thematic database to represent the past geography in China

  • History of Cartography in China, especially the topographical map surveying in Modern Period

Ongoing Research Projects

  • In charge of the National Science Foundation Committee supported program on the urban internal spatial structure of modern Beijing

  • In charge of the Science Foundation for Surveying and Mapping supported program on the topographical surveying in the Modern China

  • In charge of the joint program of Chinese Academy of Surveying and Mapping and Institute of Geographical Science and Resource Research, in the digitalization of past geographical information of China for 5000 years.

  • Participating in the program supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology in the standards to the electronic cartography, especially in the map symbol

  • Participating in the program supported by the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping on the construction of GIS database on the territory physical features

  • Participating in the international program of Chinese Historical Geographical Information System, supported from Luce Foundation in the United States

  • Participating in the design of program named Time Mapping 3000 Years of Globalization: Knowledge Modeling Urbanization, Empire Formation, Climate Change and Emerging Global Complexity, charged by Christopher Chase-Dunn, University of California, Riverside
