the past decade, much progress has been achieved in the study of the history of
Chinese cartography. This message gives a brief review of these achievements in
terms of projects, monographs, journal articles, etc. Titles given in [ ] are

Published Monographs * Cao Wan Ru, Zheng Xi Huang, Huang Sheng Zhang, Niu Zhong Xun, Wang Qian Jing, etc. '[Atlas of Ancient Maps in China]', three volumes [Beijing: Cultural Relics Press, 1990-1997] . ISBN 7-5010-0954-6. Vol. 1 covered the earliest period, Vol. 2 the Ming Dynasty, and Vol. 3 the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). 212 maps are reproduced, with Chinese and English descriptive text. * Yan Ping, Jin Ying Chun, Sun Guo Qing, Yin Jun Ke, Zhou Rong, etc. 'China: in Ancient and Modern Maps' [London: Philip Wilson, 1998]. ISBN 0-85667-413-3. A collection of 166 maps from 2000 years ago to the end of the Qing Dynasty (1911), with brief descriptions and a foreword by Prof. Hou Ren Zhi. The Harbin Cartographical Press [Harbin, China] produced a Chinese edition in the same year.
